Many of you know that chiropractic care can help relieve problems like low back pain, neck pain, and even headaches. But did you know chiropractic has been shown to improve anxiety, including chronic anxiety?

The research behind it is constantly growing, and we’ve seen quite a few instances of relieved and improved chronic anxiety in our patients after regular chiropractic care. The anatomy of the spine and nervous system can shed some light on why this occurs.

Symptoms of Chronic Anxiety

Chronic anxiety can be described in a variety of ways. Each person who experiences this disorder has a different way of telling the story. But there is usually one word that remains a constant: fear. Its an unrelenting fear of an unknown threat. When there is a threat, our nervous system resorts to our flight or fight system – the sympathetic nervous system. This system is responsible for the surge of adrenaline that occurs when a threat is near. Chronic anxiety is thought to occur when the sympathetic nervous system is left unbalanced by its counterpart – the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the restful state of the body.

Symptoms of chronic anxiety can include:

  • Excessive sweating
  • High resting heart rate
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Lack of concentration
  • Nausea
  • Lack of appetite
  • Panic attacks

How We Help

Chiropractic can improve the outlook of those who suffer from anxiety disorders by restoring the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, by eliminating the interference in the nervous system. This interference is caused by subluxation or misalignments of the spine.

At SHC, we have an arsenal of objective tools to evaluate your entire nervous system and your function. This comprehensive evaluation includes your spine, the balance of the autonomic nervous system, and brain function all as indicators of subluxations. These subluxations are corrected by chiropractic adjustments. With continued care and increased stability of the spine, anxiety can be improved significantly.

Our belief is that it’s your right to have the help you deserve because anxiety is NOT something you have to live with.

Please, reach out to us if you have questions about anxiety, our neurological tests, and how to start the care you deserve.
