Dr. Gavin

Dr Gavin Smith, D.C.

Dr. Gavin Smith grew up in Ames and finished high school in Ankeny, Iowa. His story began immediately after he was born, when he was whisked away from his family and transported across state lines, where he spent two weeks in the NICU. That early experience gave his family firsthand insight into how stressful those first moments of life can be and how important the nervous system is for lifelong health.

In middle school, Gavin suffered a low back injury while playing football. Pain medications temporarily relieved his symptoms, but nothing provided lasting results until his family took him to a local chiropractor. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for helping others heal naturally and inspired his path toward becoming a chiropractor himself.

Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Iowa State University and his Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He is certified in the Webster Technique, Activator Method, and through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

Today, Dr. Smith’s passion lies in caring for children and families, especially those navigating challenges such as ADHD, Autism, anxiety, and other neurodevelopmental concerns. His expertise with Insight Scanning technology allows him to objectively measure how the nervous system is functioning and track real, measurable progress over time.

Outside the office, Dr. Gavin enjoys golfing, playing basketball, lifting at the gym, and spending time outdoors. He’s a proud Iowa State Cyclones fan and loves attending sporting events with his wife, Dr. Sarah Smith, who practices alongside him at Specialized Health Chiropractic.
